Secrets of the Big Dogs

Journalism no Longer a Profession - Posted Jul 02, 2001

There was a time when I thought that journalism as a whole was a profession to be respected. Living in America, it soon became painfully obvious that I was blinded, and niave to have this belief. The problem was obvious, that journalism was no longer a profession of very courageous individuals that, although dedicated to their profession/story, would always remain unbiased and ALWAYS seeking the TRUTH. The TRUTH is always the story. It changed to a profession where the most interesting rendition of a story became the news, NOT THE TRUTH. Finding out the truth, and publishing it, was, and still is the most important part of journalism. It doesn't matter if the truth is boring. People are overlooking this so much now that it has become the standard. People trying to learn from the news don't realize the problem and that the story as fact. Can you blame them? There was once a day when the news could be taken as fact, but that day has long since passed. Looking at the world I thought that it was just the corrupt ideals of Americans causing this problem here. I thought most of the rest of the world, barring Great Britain, was immune to this disease of corruption... at least for the time being.

Well, the times have changed once again. Shame on you for being a part of this. What sort of credibility can you ever advertise for yourself with a good heart & soul? You will know you are lying through your teeth. Shame on you! Recently you published an article regarding Art Bell and a racist letter attached to his name. This story broke over THREE YEARS AGO! You are just now picking up on this story, which is sad but fine, however you refused to research all of what has been found out. It wasn't hard to find the truth when the original investigators looked in to the validity of this racist letter. This would lead me to believe that you'd have your work cut out for you. No, you blatantly IGNORED the truth and published PURE TRASH. Your paper is not a tabloid, yet you are pubishing a KNOWN LIE! You are the largest paper in your country, and should be ashamed of yourself. If anything, you should have a story about Art Bell relating to how his wife is half filipino, and how he couldn't love her and her culture/heritage any more. In fact he has learned from her and adopted a lot of her culture into his life as well as those of his millions of listeners. SHAME ON YOU! This racist letter was written as a hoax 3 years ago. It was very easily traced back to a University of California - San Diego campus computer... NOT Mr Bell's.

The publishing of your story has lead to hundreds of death threats to Mr. Bell, and you should feel absolutely 100% guilty for printing this garbage. After all, it is solely responsible for the death threats to him, his family, and his filipino wife. SHAME ON YOU! Mr. Bell is an American icon. He is an icon for the truth and honesty. He is not an icon to the American standards that! the rest of the world seems to hate. In other words, he is one of the good guys, and you should be on his side, not hurting him.

An IMMEDIATE, formal, clear and consise retraction is in order. Not on page f-12 buried under the story about a local who lost his cat, but on the front page, on the bottom. You are endangering many lives after all! Shame on you, and to save any credibility you can, PLEASE, do the right thing! Admit your error and learn from it. Don't follow in the footsteps of the corrupt American media by ingoring this or not taking it on as you should. You DONT want to be like us... trust me. Our media is rotting away our great nation from the inside-out, and it'll happen to you if you keep on the this path.
