Art Bell was an American broadcaster and radio personality known for his work on the paranormal, conspiracy theories, and fringe science. Born on June 17, 1945, in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, Bell was raised in a military family and moved around frequently during his childhood. He attended the University of Maryland, but dropped out after one year to pursue a career in broadcasting. Bell began his career in radio in the 1970s, working for a variety of stations in the Southwest. He became interested in the paranormal and began hosting a late-night show on KTRS in St. Louis called "West Coast AM." The show focused on topics such as UFO sightings, conspiracy theories, and psychic phenomena, and quickly gained a cult following. In 1988, Bell moved to Pahrump, Nevada, where he built a studio on his property and began broadcasting his show, which he renamed "Coast to Coast AM." The show was syndicated nationally and became one of the most popular overnight radio programs in the country, with millions of listeners tuning in each night. Over the years, Bell interviewed a wide range of guests, including scientists, politicians, authors, and ordinary people with extraordinary stories to tell. He was known for his ability to create an atmosphere of mystery and intrigue, and his shows often featured eerie music and sound effects to enhance the spooky atmosphere. Bell retired from broadcasting several times over the years, citing health reasons and a desire to spend more time with his family. However, he always returned to the airwaves, and continued to host his show until his final retirement in 2015. Art Bell passed away on April 13, 2018, at the age of 72.
