ART BELL IN RATINGS BOOM.
MEDFORD, OR April 25, 2001 - Art Bell, the overnight talk radio host who
came out of retirement on February 5th of this year to resume his reign as
the king of overnight talk radio is celebrating unprecedented ratings
success. According to ARBITRON, in their recently released Winter Book, Art
Bell returned to score a 7.5 share on WABC, topping all other stations on the
AM dial in the New York City area, and placing third in the entire New York
market. These results were complied during a period of time that Bell was
back on the air for only two months of the three month ratings period.
In Los Angeles, in the 25-54 demographics, Art went from an Average Quarter
Hour (AQH) listenership of 3.8 to 6.9, for an 81.6 percent increase. In
Chicago, among persons 12+ Bell went from an AQH of 11.2 to 20.1, a 79.5
percent increase. In Philadelphia, Bell dominated the market moving his
local affiliate into the number one position for persons 12+ overnights.
Since the results of the Winter Book are only a partial sample of the
actual listening audience, Senior Vice President, Alan Corbeth predicts even
larger numbers in the Spring ratings Book, which is expected to be released
in July. Corbeth explains that "ratings such as these are absolutely
phenomenal. Art and I are thrilled beyond belief that even with a partial
book, the ratings prove that Art's return to radio has been extremely well
received. I am certain that our first complete Book, which will be Spring
2001 will show even more impressive numbers for Art."
